The Nordic House in Reykjavík opened in 1968 with the principal aim of strengthening ties between Iceland and the other Nordic countries. It was designed by Alvar Aalto, the distinguished Finnish architect, and is located a short distance from the centre of Reykjavík. Its nearest neighbour is the University of Iceland. From the beginning the House has played an important part in Nordic cultural activities and the cultural life of Iceland.
